In anticipation of Mother's Day, The Folk Tree Collection presents BEDAZZLED IV: Contemporary Jewelry Design, an exhibition featuring the work of approximately
thirty-five artists with an emphasis on unique styles, materials and techniques.
The dates of the show are April 22 - May 20, 2006, with a reception on Saturday,
April 22, from 2 - 6 P.M.

The variety of jewelry on display reflects influences from around the world, including the far east, the Middle East and Africa, from other periods in time, including the Victorian era and the mid 20th Century. One of the artists represented, Dianne Sommelet, actually uses antiquities from Mauritania (1000-1800 A.D.) and Cambodia
(1000-1300 A.D.) and somewhat newer pieces from India as the focal points of her designs.

From cast to fabricated, carved to beaded, the pieces on display show a broad range of possibilities in contemporary jewelry. Most of the artists featured are from California, among them: Sally Bass (bakelite and other vintage elements); Joann Boyer (antique style beadwork); Bill Gallagher (fabricated sterling silver w/ pearls); Sean Hill (sterling silver and resin): Lisa Kan (lampwork glass beads); Maria White Mebane (porcelain); Jan Powell (stamped dominos with hand painted embellishments and gold leaf);
Juan Sigala (sterling silver w/ gemstone beads); and Eric Silva (carved bone,
semi-precious stones, cast and fabricated sterling silver).

Artists from outside the state include: Henny Iliescu from New York (cuttlebone casting w/ sterling silver and semi-precious stones); Lily Lambert from Oregon (intricate seed bead designs); and Courtney Lipson from Washington (micro mosaics on sterling silver). Many of the artists represented have participated in fine crafts exhibitions throughout the country.

Works range in price from $50. to approximately $500.
