| In anticipation of spring and inspired by southern Californians' love of gardening and nature, The Folk Tree Collection presents For the Garden, an exhibition of objects, both decorative and functional, created by local artists for placement in outdoor residential spaces. The show runs from March 5 - April 9, with a reception for the artists, which is open to the public, on Saturday, March 5, from 2 - 6 P.M. The pieces on view provide focal points for gardens, patios, balconies, courtyards, walkways and entrys. Furniture, wind chimes, lighting, stepping stones, birdhouses, garden stakes, planters, and sculptural work are all included. Annette Atwood from Whittier contributes ceramic beaded garden stakes, a totem and a ceramic chair suitable for a covered patio. Claremont artist Sandy Garcia takes an old chair, paints and embellishes it with mosaics created from found objects, removes the seat and transforms it into a colorful planter. Glass artist Jeff Price from Santa Ana has designed a unique outdoor decoration - handmade marbles which move up and down in a tornado shaped copper track that spins gracefully in the wind. The marbles come in a few sizes - from the diameter of a golf ball to that of a tennis ball. Pasadena's Lucia Yang offers fused glass wind chimes made of colorful flat discs that are very retro 1960s in style. Also included are Joe Solano's birdhouses, Stefani Gruenberg's large organic ceramic planters and work by a number of other artists. The handmade objects in this show, which incorporate unusual materials, display distinctive styles and have a variety of functions, provide creative options for outdoor design accents. |
