The "art" of romance is featured in The Folk Tree's 22nd Annual HEARTS & FLOWERS Exhibition, held in honor of Valentine's Day from January 24 - February 21, 2009. Approximately sixty artists, including twenty jewelry designers, are represented.
The public is invited to a reception on Saturday, January 24, from 2 - 6 P.M.

Love and its symbols are the focus of the HEARTS & FLOWERS exhibit, which showcases artwork and jewelry in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, ceramics, cut paper, assemblage, collage, glass, fiber, and much more. Sterling silver, resin, clay, glass, beads and gemstones are some of the materials used to create the jewelry on view. An array of related Mexican folk art is also offered, including ceramic figures by the renowned Aguilar family, repousse hearts cut from tin, and paper and corn husk flowers.

Each artist displays her/his personal interpretations of the themes of love and romance. Small decorative Valentine-like objects are offered by Jennifer Coniff, Moni Blom, and Tamara Hensick. Also included are mixed media pieces by Patricia Anders and Yvonne Jongeling; cut paper by Robin Bevan; paintings by Rick Blanco, Winifred Brewer, and
Nino Gonzalez; ceramics by Johanna Hansen and Claudia Galvan; prints by Outi Harma and Eva Armisen; and fiberwork by Mavis Leahy and Sumi Foley, among many others.

Some of the jewelers represented are: Alba Dandridge (cast sterling), Felicia Nilson (ceramics), Sean Hill (cast resin & sterling silver), Holly Rittenhouse (fabricated sterling silver), Detra Prete (paper), Stephanie Schroeter-Frymyer (fine silver), Juan Sigala (beading with sterling silver and gemstones), and Lucia Yang (fused glass).

HEARTS & FLOWERS is an exhibition for the romantically inclined, offering an eclectic blend of traditional folk art, contemporary crafts and fine art.
