Trained by the legendary Pedro Linares, this artist exhibits a mastery of the difficult medium of papier maché. Wild and outlandish winged mythical creatures known as alebrijes (al-e-bri'-jes) are one of Garcia's specialties. Other favorite subjects are the skeleton figures made popular by the engravings of Jose Guadalupe Posada, the famous nineteenth political satirist.
