| Join us as we travel to Oaxaca - pronounced
Wa-ha-ka - to experience Mexico's folk art capital. Our twelve day tour
takes you directly to the source of North America's most diverse, popular
folk art center. On intimate visits to artisans' rural homes, you'll watch as skilled craftspeople create the folk art that has made Oaxaca famous. The artists will display their finest works, introduce you to their families and show you around their homes. Not only will you learn about folk art, you will also learn about the lifestyles that have produced it. Your tour includes visits to wood carvers, potters, clay sculptors, weavers, and fine and folk artists. Shopping opportunities will abound as you visit the oldest and largest Indian markets in this hemisphere and are introduced to the city's many galleries and folk art stores. You'll see some of Mexico's most important prehistoric ruins, visit magnificent churches, and explore one of the most charming colonial cities that Mexico has to offer. Our trip combines the best of a tour with personal visits. You will be a welcome guest and friend. Our warm welcome will be made possible by Rocky Behr, Mexican folk art authority and owner of The Folk Tree, a highly regarded folk art store in Pasadena, California. Rocky has been involved with Oaxacan folk art and folk artists for more than two decades. This is an insider's tour made possible only because of Rocky's many personal friendships in Oaxaca. As we visit the artisans, Rocky will share her experience and observations with you. Rocky speaks Spanish and is equally at home in the United States and Mexico. Also guiding the tour will be Sergio Diazvelez, a native of Mexico. He has led many tours in the Mayan areas of Mexico, including for National Geographic. Working as a team, Rocky and Sergio will help you to understand Mexican folk art and the cultures that have produced it. Participation on this trip is limited to 20 people. This tour is unlike any other! |
