From June 5 - July 3, 2004, The Folk Tree Collection is pleased to welcome the members of Women Painters West (WPW) in the exhibition "Small Offerings," juried by Franklyn Liegel. The unifying theme of the show is work on an intimate scale, with pieces not exceeding 11" x 14" in size. Other than this restriction, technique, subject matter and style are dictated only by the sensibilities of the individual artist. A reception and awards ceremony for the artists is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, from 2 - 6 P.M. and is open to the public.

Womens Painters West (under another name) was founded in Laguna Beach in 1921 as a non-profit organization. The membership is comprised of about 200 professional women artists working in all mediums. A large number of members have been instructors in all levels of art education, and many have been recognized and honored nationally and internationally.

"Small Offerings" is one of several juried exhibitions held annually in museums and in community, professional and university galleries. This show features approximately seventy-five works. Jurors, such as Franklyn Liegel, are artists, museum curators or gallery directors invited from outside the organization to share their expertise. Franklyn Liegel is a noted Los Angeles multi media artist, who received his MFA from Otis Art Institute and and has exhibited since the early 1980s locally and internationally. During the 1980s he was represented by Koplin Gallery, Los Angeles. He is currently on the faculty at Otis.

Other recent jurors have included: Molly Barnes, Don Lagerberg, Lydia Takeshita. Comments by jurors and reviews describe WPW shows as "reflective, poetic, elegant...with aspects of color abstraction, minimalism, expressionism, modernism...connecting cultures across the millennia."

In order to establish some consistency within each WPW show this year, original Haiku has been written to serve as inspiration. The Haiku created for The Folk Tree Collection exhibition is:

Summer grass breathes sweet
Garlands bend, small offerings
Long shadow short nights.
